French Aristocrat Count Albert De Dion and Engineer Georges Bouton formed a partnership in 1883. Their early exploits were in steam and marine boilers but by the mid 1890s they were manufacturing Tricycles and light cars. By 1902, De Dion Bouton estimated that around 30,000 of their engines were in circulation and that around 140 manufacturers were using their engines under license.
Offered here is a beautiful example of a 1903 De Dion Bouton with the 8HP power unit. This examples early history is relatively unknown however it was purchased by the current family in the late 1970s and was restored at this time. The car was subsequently dated by the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain in August 1989. Having completed over 25 London to Brighton runs at a minimum (possibly more), the car has been a part of the current custodians family for over 50 years.

Walking around this example, it is clear to see that it has been highly cared for and maintained to ensure its roadworthiness. The engine starts well and is carbureted by the correct period Carburettor and has been fitted with ignition from De Dion specialist Austin Parkinson. Other particularly nice elements to this car are the stunning pair of Powell and Hanmer headlamps that are flanked by Lucas side lamps that contain exquisite blue cut glass. The Coachwork, wheels upholstery all present nicely and do not show radical signs of age. Ignition is via trembler coil and lubrication via the correct de dion pump that delivers oil between the engine and gearbox.
To summarise, this is a great opportunity to purchase a four seat London to Brighton car time with a sensible starting time, that presents extremely well and offers the reassurance of parts availability that De Dion Bouton models always do.
