The Wolseley Tool and Motor Car Company Limited was established as a subsidiary of Vickers, Maxim & Sons. They had a factory at Adderley Park in Birmingham under the management of Herbert Austin and commenced regular production of motorised vehicles in 1901. Following designs from Herbert Austin’s 1899 prototype, their early cars featured horizontal transverse engines with the most popular being the 10HP Twin Cylinder as shown here today.

In its day, the 10HP Wolseley motorcar was one of the most popular high quality British made cars on the market and the Wolseley company took hundreds of orders between 1901-1905.

Looking at the example here today, E449 is possibly the most well known Wolseley in the United Kingdom and presents in quite exceptional condition throughout. Due to an array of Wolseley archives that survive today, we are able to trace the car back to its delivery on 26 February 1903 after being ordered on 10th September 1902 at the Paris Motor show.

The car today is presented true to original specification all the way through to the leather work and paintwork colour. It also maintains its original Coachwork, that was installed at the Adderley Park factory in 1903.

It must be bought to attention that this example has been maintained to the highest quality, it is a premium London to Brighton car that has been loved and cared for with no expense spared. The history file is extremely substantial with many period publications, Wolseley handbook and workshop manuals, invoices, period photographs and detailed documentation of its restoration and recent work carried out. Amongst the file are the original Buff logbook alongside current V5C and VCC dating certificate.

The car is in superb running order, having been serviced as recently as May 2024 and has completed over 30 London to Brighton Runs, the 1000 Mile Trial, RAC Summer Runs, Creepy Crawly and other events. It starts on the handle and is capable of 40MPH with 4/5 passengers.
