French Aristocrat Count Albert De Dion and Engineer Georges Bouton formed a partnership in 1883. Their early exploits were in steam and marine boilers but by the mid 1890s they were manufacturing Tricycles and light cars. By 1902, De Dion Bouton estimated that around 30,000 of their engines were in circulation and that around 140 manufacturers were using their engines under license.

The 6HP model Q Populaire was first introduced in 1903 and was the most popular imported car in Great Britain. This particular example featured a 2 forward speed gearbox with added reverse. The drive being achieved by the ever popular De Dion Bouton expanding clutch system.

This particular example, has been maintained to an exceptional standard by the current custodian. Recent works have been carried out by NP Veteran Engineering and have consisted of but not limited to, new piston rings, little end, zenith carburetor, inlet manifold, rewired throughout, gearbox re bush and rear drive shaft rebuild. The car was traditionally hand painted by Tom Parrott in early 2024 in period colour (Union green) with gold coach lining. The addition of a Boa Constrictor horn, Lucas side and rear lamps have ensured that the car is presented in stunning condition.

The car presents to such a degree that it recently won best in show at the RAC Summer Veteran Car Run 2024 an event that showed many larger vehicles. The car is now for sale due to the purchase of a new 4 seat London to Brighton vehicle.

Offered as part of the sale is a small covered trailer, history file, invoices and VCC Dating certificate. This De Dion is a fantastic example for new entrants and collectors alike, cosmetically second to none, it is sure to grab attention wherever it goes.
